Downsides? Storage of spent materials - whether it’s on site at existing power plants or centralized facilities, leakage outside of containment facilities (as has happened at several facilities in the past - not counting TMI or Chernobyl), terror attacks specifically targeting nuke plants that would hope to detonate and spread nuclear materials downwind, and catastrophic failures causing mass contamination (TMI and Chernobyl).

Some of those problems can be avoided with better training, new technologies, and improved security. Storage of spent materials has to be resolved and is a key problem in the US.
