On this day in 1716, 18 year old Jean Thurel enlisted in the army of the King of France. He would serve until his death on March 10, 1807 aged 108. His service with the Rgiment de Touraine for 90 years and 6 months as a common fusilier, fighting in numerous wars, will probably remain unequaled.
