The Founders used to inoculate (not vaccinate) people for smallpox. Any idea what that means, wingnuts? I thought not. It means to infect a person with pus from a smallpox sufferer in order to give them a somewhat milder case themselves.

The advantage of this was that you could do it at a time of your choosing when resources weren’t overloaded during an epidemic and there were people available to take care of you. As a bonus, it had only about a 10% chance of killing you, instead of the usual 30% or more.
