I saw a post on Facebook when Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, a black Republican, spoke on the Senate floor about being stopped repeatedly for no cause - “Just checking your registration”, or “Your car resembles one we’re looking for” - the usual bullshit.

I BRIEFLY thought this might have an impact on wingnuts’ thinking - Republican, Senator from a Deep South state, Conservative. That illusion was shattered when I read one of the first comments on the post. It said, no, he wasn’t being ‘targeted’, he was being ‘profiled’, because blacks are so often criminals.

I confess to being rendered speechless for about 20 seconds, which is an eternity for me.

Tim Scott is capable of recognizing that bit of reality, most likely because he is personally affected by it. Good for him. Every instance of a Republican recognizing reality is grounds for a celebration, no matter how minor or self-serving it may be.

However, Tim Scott is a black Republican, so there must be many other aspects of reality he is blind to.
