My guess is that the entire town is being fed direct by the well pumps. That’s why they’ve got the pressure relief valves attached to the hydrants, to deal with any transient spikes caused by switching latency. If I recall correctly they already have individual reverse osmosis machines in every house instead of a centralized purification plant and I think they’re still on a boil order because the disrepair was letting insect pests from a nearby farm operation pollute the water inside the tower.

Yup. We’re not on a boil order now, but that is why we’re doing the repairs (no screens on the water tower vents, so insects can get in, and birds build nests in the vents).
