The UK is suffering much what the US is, namely a period of rapid social change that is leaving large numbers of the native population afraid that they’re in danger of being rendered powerless. The historical precedent is when those populations fear such, they lash out towards whatever populations they fear are taking all the power and the parties they view as aiding such. In many ways it’s a generational issue, as the largest generations are also the ones slowly aging into oblivion, while the younger generation that’s embracing the change is smaller and less engaged.
