I used to live half a block from there, on 12th Street (the apartment I lived in was torn down and turned into a parking lot for the now-defunct Raven restaurant), and later on Pacific Avenue.
I’d run screaming west as fast as I could with that crowd.
It’s one of the reasons I refuse to go near the beach even in years when there isn’t a viral outbreak. The only reason I’ve been to the beach in the past 20 years I’ve lived here is for work. Every year, I mutter at least once “Why do they call it ‘tourist season’ when you can’t shoot them?”
