We had our weekly discussion with our Texas brother today. My sister mentioned a couple potentially controversial issues but the only one that elicited any feedback was about Trump and masks. Our brother talked — not about Trump — but about how everywhere he travels in Texas, people are wearing masks. Even in places that don’t have mandates, everyone is following the recommendations. I tried to bring up a couple situations where there were disagreements, and he dismissed them as minor. He and his wife (and their dogs) just returned from a road trip to visit her daughter’s family in Michigan, and everywhere they stopped, people were wearing masks in stores. So maybe more of the population is sensible when it comes to precautions — even those who are ardent Trumpsters like my brother and his wife.

Polls have been telling us that large majorities approved of masking — starting a while back, around 70% and growing steadily. And I believe I read that with 80% compliance, we can significantly reduce transmission.
