I remember when GOPers like Trump were claiming that West Virginia was a paragon of virtue and that they were successfully handling the covid pandemic.
Well.. guess what…
On a per capita basis, they’ve got the fourth worst per capita death rate from covid. Mississippi is the worst in the nation, followed by Arizona and Alabama.
New Jersey is 7th, even though as of last summer, it had the highest per capita rate (the initial wave absolutely devastated the NYC metro area and NJ in particular). But good masking rules and social distancing and good vaccination campaigns blunted all the following waves.
GOP states didn’t care about any of that, and the results show - a huge body count of preventable deaths.
Pro life my ass.
Frankly, I wish we all followed the Washington State example, because they were not only part of the initial wave, but managed to do better than most everywhere else in containing, contact tracing, and stopping the spread. Had the nation followed their example consistently, the death toll would have been cut nearly in half. That’s nearly half a million people who’d still be alive if they followed Washington’s lead.
