The unilateral withdrawal was in retrospect a mistake. It was not wise to ask the Palestinians something in return. The withdrawal itself wasn’t a mistake. Many lives were spared by this decision: civilian and military.

If there had been no withdrawal, Gaza wouldn’t be an armed camp and there would have been no need for Operation Cast Lead. That’s 1300 Pali lives right there whether they are ‘civilian’ or terrorist.

And the ultimate battle there has yet to be fought - a battle that would not have been necessary had Israel stayed in Gaza.

And by the way, tell the people of Sderot and its environs that their lives were spared by the Gaza expulsion.
