When I worked for WallyWorld way back in the late ’70s, they weren’t the global giant that they now are. Sam Walton didn’t have the mega-bucks to pay us genius-types that had chosen to work for him. So we were, by industry standards, underpaid.

What he had was stock. So he gave that to us. Free. That’s why you now find little old ladies who have never had any job more stressful than running a cash register (and that is stressful enough, believe you me) retiring as millionaires and better.

My daughter tells me that isn’t the way it works, now.
