2017 estimates for the Syrian Air Force are 461 operational aircraft. The previous and probably also somewhat inflated US estimate for aircraft damaged or destroyed in the raid was 20. Not 20 percent, 20 aircraft. Given that we gave the Russians advance warning and they in turn told the Syrians it was coming, the probability is those 20 were mostly junkers the repair shop keeps around for parts and a few grounded aircraft that were in for repairs.

So, you tell me how the Pentagon takes that and officially sells it as “20 percent” of the Syrian operational air fleet damaged or destroyed by one telegraphed raid at a relatively minor airbase?
