re: #74 Targetpractice

May’s basically backed into a corner now. If she doesn’t move forward then the government collapses, she’s out as Party Leader and possibly even out of the party altogether, and the nation finds itself back as Square One as the squabbles begin over just how “hard” or “soft” a Brexit the nation can stand.

The British government faces another dilemma; while it’s likely that the ECJ could end up ruling that the UK can unilaterally revoke Article 50 via a parliamentary vote - with some stipulations, no doubt - doing so would possibly engender a fatal split with the Conservative Party and create friction (to say the least) within the Labour Party, which is headed by a Leaver, Jeremy Corbyn, but whose membership is generally supportive of remaining in the EU.

Combined with Britain’s first-past-the-post electoral system, the Brexit referendum and it’s outcomes are going to be the source of a good deal of domestic political bickering for the foreseeable future.

Former PM Cameron’s bid to put an end to EU bickering within the Tories has backfired in the most disastrous manner possible.
