Cold War doesn’t only apply to the Soviet Union. What makes this like the CW is we’re not dealing with conventional warfare. We’re fighting for democracy and pluralism while Putin is interested in the opposite. His goals are a new world where Russia dominates the conversation directly or through proxies.

I understand, it’s just that the term itself conjures images of the USSR.

Putin is promoting his own country’s interests, or at least his understanding of them, and having the US hamstrung by incompetence, corruption and political strife allows him to implement his domestic and international agenda with minimal interference.
