Calendars though area really interesting, culturally. They are about dominance. This is why in some cultures calendars are set by the life of the ruler.

The Gregorian calendar is a leftover from when RC hierarchy were the big players in Europe. Even other people , such as your Jewish calendar, have to play second fiddle to it, because of cultural dominance.

My old boss was Iranian. Iirc he told me that their calendar begins with spring. I liked that. But yeah so much our culture is informed by Christian conceptions of things. Which is why you have to laugh when you hear that they’re persecuted.
