It remains my belief that the presence of an unruly mob outside the Capital Building was always part of the original plan but storming the castle was not.

They knew that Pence was not going to cooperate with their plan; perhaps they decided that additional action was needed to delay the certification and give the leaders of the coup time to enact their full plot to overthrow the government.
