re: #696 Killgore Trout

Has anyone been following the California thing. Drudge headline: LET THE CUTS BEGIN! NEW CALIFORNIA TAX REVOLT

…which links to an article titled: Ballot Defeat Leaves Calif. In Deeper Budget Hole

Is this good?

It’s good that people are waking up; it’s going to be bad economically speaking. My husband is a state employee (who declares that the Official State Worker motto should be: “I don’t work, I’m employed”) so our household budget has taken a 10% pay cut. California payroll taxes have gone up for both of us, and the 1% sales tax hike and the gasoline tax hike have made the cost of everything go up. But we just can’t let the legislature grab more rope and pay it out — it has got to stop and I think most folks are willing to take it on the chin for a while if there’s even a small hope that when we come out the other side, the attitude in Sacramento will change.

Sometimes the best action is just to stand back and let a thing break, then you can truly fix it. Our fear is that the Fed will step in and enable the same (and more!) spend-Spend-SPENDING. Then not only will California’s hole be dug deeper, we’ll have an even heavier Federal tax burden on top of it.
