What’s ironic is that throughout the Bush years I was a huge critic of the man and his policies but I had to point out when I saw anti Muslim paranoia on the right in the Bush years that Bush the man that so many of them supported had after all appointed Muslims to his administration. I found out later that many on the right didn’t see Bush as a “real conservative” anyhow which amused me since they were so nasty and dismissive to any left wing critic of the man.

There is an odd dichotomy in that. The religious right endorsed Bush early in the 2000 primaries and gave him a powerful boost toward the nomination. At the same time, the crazy-cons have always been a little skeptical of him, from his history of alcohol and drug abuse to his Ivy League education they never really saw him as one of their own. He was, rather, someone they saw as favoring their agenda for partisan reasons and powerful enough to implement it.
