My DSL can stream 720p just fine (which is the resolution of my screen), but a lot of videos are 720p60 nowadays. Who needs 60 fps? The worst offender is a channel where all the videos are just a guy standing there talking and displaying still photos. 60 fps? Really?
In the early days of television, 60 fps was selected for two reasons: a) matches AC current feed in US homes, so sync was easier, and b) 60 fps is fast enough that βflickerβ is not really a problem for most viewers.
