While the Aryan Nations wasn’t in CDA, they were just up the road in Hayden. You can read the Wikipedia article on how the main organization was taken down around 2000 and how it’s divided into a number of factions. But you want to know what’s depressing? We thought all that shiz was going away, and if anything, it’s worse than ever.

Very true! After the Aryan Nations were taken down, there had been hope that these idiots were not coming back. Their return and presence in the area would, at a minimum, destroy property values.

A lizard posted some stuff recently about another of these ‘Utopia’ projects, “The Free State Project”, and what they did to the small town of Grafton in the process.

A lot of these folks and radical preppers talk about going to the “free” wide open spaces of Rural America. Iirc, some folks took a look at Yugoslavia during their 1990s Civil War and figured out that suburbia was likely the best spot to in during major civil disturbances. Cities were too dependent upon bringing supplies. And rural areas were so sparsely populated that a small gang of thugs could easily take them over.

My grandparents were part of the great urbanization of America, moving out of rural small farms into the towns. And I can understand why.

And I have heard many stories from others about the hardships of small farming back in the first half of the 20th Century.
