I always thought that Poland and Hungary were kindred spirits when it came to nationalism and xenophobia, but I think that Poland’s hatred and distrust for Russia was what led to the split.

Poland has a long and very bad history of Russian oppression extending back centuries that will keep it out of Putin’s orbit.
