My Senator (Joe Lieberman) is being treated very poorly here in liberal Connecticut. The venom directed at him by the editorial writers as well as the letters from the public is quite nauseating. Lieberman has a lot of political courage and is a man who has damn good judgment in my opinion. But because he dares to buck the Democrat party and its reflexive need to support the Obama/Reid/Pelosi health care plan, he is villified on a daily basis.

No, he’s vilified on a daily basis because he’s vigorously opposing stuff that in 2006 he campaigned on vigorously supporting. And because he in the last election he vigorously supported, campaigned for, and spoke at the convention of, the other party’s candidate. And then made a bunch more promises to the caucus to be able to retain his chairmanship… and has gone back on those promises too.

Just three months ago, in an on-camera interview, he suggested the medicare buy-in; in a caucus meeting he again brought it up as his preferred alternative to the public option. Now suddenly he hates it.

And just last week, he said he liked the bill and was going to vote for it until he heard that Anthony Weiner likes it — but he can’t support anything Anthony Weiner likes.

Joe should just call himself a Republican, because that’s clearly what he is.
