I forgot that Nebraska was unicameral honestly. I think you’re showing Timothy’s point. Running for office is a busy commitment. I’ve seen countless sacrificial limbs for office in my time here in VA-10. Some have campaigned harder than others but they ultimately faced an uphill battle no matter how much money they had.

For anything bigger than a city council in a small town, it does take a lot of commitment to run for office. (As for the Unicameral part, most people don’t know that NE and VI have unicameral legislatures, unless they live in NE or VI, not a big deal.) Even in my small town, my unpaid trustee position is a big suck for time (I don’t mind the time suck though or I wouldn’t have tossed my fedora in the ring twice).

For some seats it also takes a helluva lot of money I would imagine. (Despite the size of my district, I suspect it is much cheaper to hold campaign events here than say someone running to represent Manhattan or Los Angeles.)
