re: #20 retired cynic

We’ve talked about this a lot, but Max Boot has a WaPo column on the “war games” that some of them performed on WHAT IF the EC was very close, and the Rs did what they did in 2000. The assumption is the conservative majority on the Supreme Court would do the same thing as happened there: stop the unrest (assuming there is unrest, which is almost certain) by deciding the election for DT.

So we need to make sure the EC margin is Big!

The real scary scenario isn’t 2000 - that was one state that was incredibly close with incredibly shitty rules in place that didn’t really consider what would happen if a statewide election was that fucking close. The real scary scenario is having multiple close states - imagine Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina all being decided by less than a thousand votes each? Each having slightly different language and procedures for recounts and recanvasings.

I think after 2000 most states updated and clarified their procedures, but it could still get to be very, very not good.
