The reason why we have to “learn to live with it” is because the Republican Party has politicized the pandemic for their cynical benefit, making the Biden administration hesitant to implement measures that would actually wipe it out: mandatory vaccinations and mandatory safety precautions like masks in public places. The GOP would scream bloody murder, of course, because they’re power-hungry, not because they really give a shit about personal freedom.

Even in countries that have done a reasonably good job controlling covid like S. Korea, there are thousands of cases per day. There is no amount of vaccine mandates or masking that is going to wipe out covid at this point and there is only so long people are going to stay on a pandemic footing and mask, and distance etc. Certainly there is no stomach to keep it up indefinitely. We need highly effective vaccines available to those who want it yearly or every 6 months or whatever is necessary and hopefully some effective treatments for those who get it anyway.
