Actually, watch the unions complain because that money is part of the race to the top funds - and are meant for charter schools and improving public schools - a tacit admission that public schools are failing (and there are more than a few in NJ that meet that description). The unions (NJEA etc.) have been out against Christie’s efforts to reform and improve schools because they demand more from the teachers - whether it is forgoing raises, limiting pensions/switching to 401ks, or perhaps most contentiously - merit pay.
