I would say it’s even worse than that: this has been cultivated in conservative confederate circles for generations. The Online Empire of Bigotry is just a symptom.

I don’t think you can clearly seperate between symptom and underlying problem here. The “symptom” feeds back into the system and makes the illness worse. It’s a dynamic relation.

That’s why this matters. I am not really a fan of rigid marxist “base versus superstructure” analyses.
