Yeah they claim and with some truth that MLK was a Republican but ignore that MLK and other civil rights activists grew disgusted with the GOP’s rightward turn on civil rights when they nominated Goldwater in 64. Not calling Goldwater a bigot here because he did from what I know oppose the CRA of 64 on constitutional grounds and had supported other CR legislation in the past but if one can’t see how that was seen as a slap in the face to blacks who had long supported what they saw as the party of Lincoln, they’re delusional. Jackie Robinson had been a huge Nelson Rockefeller fan and had even supported Nixon over Kennedy in 1960 because he felt and with truth that Nixon had the better record but when Nixon started being all chummy with Strom Thurmond in 1968, he supported Humphrey. Conservatives who don’t understand why many Blacks are hostile to the modern GOP are delusional if you ask me and then they make cracks about the liberal plantation which is stupid.
