But I think we are overreacting on the don’t nominate the ENEMY conver.

Comey was covering his arse. It’s all ugly.

Pretend that you are President Obama in 2013. What rational reason is there to nominate a Republican as FBI director? The Republicans are the enemy. It really is just that simple, in that context.
