re: #77 Lupin

Yes, apologies to all, I was quoting from (imperfect) memory.

Except for the detailed battle plans which were frankly beyond me, I found the book hugely informative and there are many parallels with what has happened here, to similarly lead us to our own soon-to-be-inaugurated Vichy regime.

Reload my comment above for an addendum.

Shirer’s historical works are peerless. Being the midst of all that strife and warfare gave his writing an immediacy and drama few historians can achieve, and his attention to detail is astonishing.

I should probably read his biography of Hitler, too.

Did you catch the recent news that an amateur historian uncovered in primary sources the drug addiction across the Third Reich’s military and leadership, including Hitler? Professional historians are figuratively smacking themselves in the forehead for missing what was in plain sight, if you only knew what you were looking at.
