It just occurred to me that the big problem for wingnuts will be explaining tonight’s wave. If “Establishment Ed” had been the only victim, they could just write him off and insist that it was no big deal. But Dems swept VA, took NJ, won big in Maine, and are lopping off heads across the country. And they’re notching various “firsts” that will be hard to argue as “insignificant.”

So what do you do? I suspect many will get morose, declaring that the country can’t be “saved” like they thought it would be last November. Others will bargain, looking for some small “win” to say that it wasn’t a total wash for them. And yet others will be in total denial, insisting that it was all a “fix” and Democrats really “stole” all those races. But the people that the GOP leadership has to worry about are going to be those who get angry, who wake up tomorrow with hangovers from drinking themselves into a stupor last night and insist that “the establishment” is to blame for all this. That they’d have won if a “true conservative” had run against Northam, that the party didn’t do enough to support its delegates, and it gave away races in order to tighten its grip on the reins of power.

I’m gonna need more popcorn…
