Because white Evangelicals more often than not are hypocritical douches. And Obama/Trump isn’t the first time they preferred a fake over the real thing. To a lesser extent, look at how they treated Carter versus Reagan. Granted Reagan treated women better than Trump has but the wah wah Hollywood still chose an actor over a Sunday School teacher who lives his faith.
