Remember those heady days of yore when the pundits were sure that Willard was positioning himself to be the leader of the post-Trump GQP? That he’d rise up to be a major voice of “sanity” in the party and could possibly use that Senate seat to make another run for the presidency?

Ah, memories.

Willard did vote in favor of conviction both times, but Mr. 47% showed his true character when he met with Trump for a possible cabinet position. And even earlier, back in 2012, when he refused to take credit for the ACA. He’s a plutocrat, who will take any position if it will further his goals of gaining more power. But he does deserve some credit for his votes on impeachment.
