re: #72 jhrhv
I donated a large sum to cancer research last year and I’ve already got $1,800 earmarked for that again this year.
I don’t do it because of the deduction. That isn’t even a consideration.
I do because I’ve been fortunate and can afford to. Well fortunate that the Mrs’s I are doing well in our careers and are healthy enough to work.
I make that donation among others because it is the right thing to do. So Ari go efyourself you Prick. If I can afford to give because it is the right thing to do maybe you can too can give because you’re fortunate and not because you get a tax break you HUGE DOUCHE!
I think the only thing the 501(c)3 designation means to me is that the organization is a legitimate charity. I don’t want to give to an organization that isn’t.
The tax deduction is (IMHO) a pain-in-the Paper Tiger’s ass. Another file folder I have to keep and paperwork to sort. Perhaps because I don’t think it makes a huge difference in the overall tax burden. Then, again, I don’t pay much attention. I also don’t write checks for thousands to charity. I don’t have that much to give.
