re: #795 buzzsawmonkey

The above paragraph shows that:

a) You believe that you, as a white male, are entitled to some sort of privilege and, if not deference, latitude in behavior. There is a name for that; you know what it is.

b) Your language indicates that you have an attitude/lip/mouth problem, which was probably responsible—at least as much as whatever behavior caused you to be noticed in the first place—for any ungentle treatment you might have received.

c) You have a notion of what “should be” which is clearly at odds with what is. That disconnect often lands people in trouble. People can be disorderly even on their own property or in their own homes; think domestic violence, or even loud music or other noise which is disrupting the neighborhood at a late hour. What is stupid is thinking that mouthing off to the police at any time—on your own property or anywhere else—is going to get you anything but grief.

Knowing your rights, and refusing allow the police to do whatever the hell they want isn’t a “mouth problem,” it’s being an informed citizen. Demanding a police officer give you his full name and badge number isn’t “disorderly conduct” it is holding the police officer to account for his actions.

Even though mouthing off to the police is stupid, it is not illegal. Doing something illegal and then mouthing off to the police is a surefire way to make sure you take a ride downtown for an infraction the officer may have let slide. But questioning the actions of a police officer who is inside your own home, against your will and getting arrested for it, sounds pretty fucking Orwellian to me. I can’t believe any self-respecting Conservative would disagree.
