Actually he was drunk off of the Holy Spirit. But on the other hand he was killed by a snake because he lacked faith. I suppose this means that he was NOT getting a free pass into Heaven, and I find this the greatest irony. These people believe very strongly that if you have enough faith you will be saved from snakebites and death and will have eternal life in Heaven, but the fact that the snake bit him meant that he lacked faith… and then he died that way. It should really be a wake-up call to his fellow parishoners that there is no easy exit for snake handlers.
