I’m not going to disagree on, “Give them something to vote for,” though. There seems to be a distinct lack of motivating options in American politics these days. Bernie completely failed to stir my interest. Hillary had a powerful message, but lots of baggage - undeserved or not - that I still personally think affected her chances despite winning the popular vote.

The other way to word that first line would be “then run for office or find someone who will.”
