McConnell is between the proverbial rock and hard place. Acquitting Trump likely costs him the majority, removing Trump likely costs him the majority. I doubt that he wants to be the Senate minority leader, and it’s entirely possible that losing the majority could even cost him his role as caucus leader. I’ve a feeling 2020 is going to go very poorly for Republicans in the Senate.

I think this is overly optimistic, but hopefully you’re right. I don’t see how Republicans lose the Senate at all.
