Senate Republicans Cave on Fiscal Cliff

The GOP will treat this two ways. One, they’ll call it a massive and irresponsible tax hike on the rich. Second, they’ll treat the tax cut on everyone else as an afterthought even as they attempt to take credit for pushing the top tax bracket to $400k from $250k.

Now, the House GOP will attempt to find a way to sabotage the bipartisan deal, even though any delay or obstruction will push a deal past the end of the lame duck into the new session - meaning the sides would have to start from scratch. Not insurmountable, but it means a few more days of dithering and Wall Street watching from the sidelines.

It also means that Obama can junk this “deal” and say “I tried $400K, but that wasn’t good enough. So now you either agree to $250K or watch the voters tear you apart.”
