As is noted in other places, there are two intractable sides to the debate that will not give ground. As long as that situation exists, nothing will get done.

Dem: Let’s talk about smarter gun laws.
Rep: Stop politicising tragedy. It’s not the gun’s fault, it’s (criminal, unstable, job loss)
Dem: Okay, let’s talk about improved medical care.
Rep: Taxes.
Dem: Let’s talk about jobs, the economy, and training.
Rep: 1% are the job creators. They need tax breaks.

That only looks like one intractable side to me.

Let’s remember the 140+ amendments that Democrats let Republicans add to the ACA.
