Well, concerning Devo, and aware you are a far more famous musician than I am:

Musician is still a job. “Staying pure to the genre” and “rejecting commercialism” seems to me to be more the complaints of purists who listen to music or view artworks. To those producers, “staying pure” doesn’t pay the rent or put food on the table.

No one asks an architect who designs buildings or bridges to “stay pure” to their art if they can make more money at it, so why the special standard for musicians?

That wasn’t intended to bash them for making money - I have nothing against Mark Mothersbaugh and the other Devo members profiting from their work. I just think it’s sad to see how a group whose whole career was based around subversiveness has been so totally co-opted by the corporate culture of America.
