re: #77 wheat-dogg, raker of forests, master of steam

Trump’s problems (among others) are that he is impulsive and immune to listening to good advice. He times markets all wrong, buys properties at elevated prices because “he always wanted them,” changes his direction on a whim. Losing billions in real estate development takes some real (non)talent. Losing money running casinos, too. I am sure there were very smart people who told him, “Don’t buy the Plaza. It’s a money pit.” “Atlantic City has too many casinos now. It doesn’t need two more.” “There’s not enough passengers for a shuttle between Manhattan and AC.” “Omaha Steaks already sells damned fine meat.” “No one is going to buy Trump-labeled water.” “The Russians will expect repayment — or else.”

And so on.

When you assume the mindset of a narcissist, most of it makes sense. He’s not a man who makes business decisions that benefit him, he makes business decisions that stroke his ego. Build a huge tower that will never have enough businesses paying rent to break even? Don’t care, it’s got my name on it in big golden letters, that’s a sign of success.

Too many casinos in Atlantic City? None of them say “Trump,” so that’s gotta be rectified.

If I slap “Trump” on my planes and offer luxury services, I’ll draw the sort of people who will fly on those jets just to say “I flew on a Trump airliner!”

Trump steaks, Trump vodka, Trump water? It’s got my name on it, it’ll practically sell itself!

The Russians expect repayment? Tell them I won’t pay, we’ll see how serious they are about calling in the debt when they’ve got so much with my name on it that they’ll go bankrupt!
