The internet is a bad thing. There used to be an IQ barrier to operating a typewriter, or writing with a pen, and addressing envelopes.

That’s not the ‘bad’ IMO. The real problem is that before the Internet it was hard for crazies to gain a large audience because electronic and print media outlets featured gatekeepers who were almost always sane people and screened out the crazies. The Internet connected previously isolated nutcases and gave them a megaphone.
