My first was born in England where the husband is allowed within 500 miles when the epidural is administered. In fact, the anaesthetist asked for my assistance, which I gave by holding my wife steady as she lay on her side and had a needle about the width of a chicken baster inserted into her spine.

I was present for the entire process, start to finish, here in America.
