I think you miss forest for individual trees. And yes, so do a lot of liberal protesters.

Real problem is the new emerging system resulting from decisions like Citizens U. and McCutcheon. The notion that billions in donations don’t even create the appearance (much less reality) of corruption, or quid pro quo, is laughable.

Only 600 people nationwide donated the maximum last year (125k total) to individual campaigns, as opposed to SuperPacs of course where donations aren’t necessarily limited at all. And an even smaller number will likely donate the max this time to individual campaigns, as that figure has been effectively raised to $3.5 million. Which means an even smaller group of people will be able to buy greater and greater access. We’re marching from democracy to oligarchy. Well, at least we’re not a monarchy.
