Could be, though it’s a fucked up way to go about it. I remember when Jong Il passed, their big giveaway to the people was rotten fish. Thing is though, where do they go if the gambit doesn’t work? China and Russia look to be less and less inclined towards bailing them out again, and they’ve burned damned near every bridge they had with SK and the West. Officially scrapping the armistice isn’t a situation they can exactly crawl back from, they own that now. They’ve made it virtually impossible for anybody to willingly negotiate with them ever again.

The leader of some South American country, I forget which, shortly after the wars of independence down there basically got 80% of the young men of the country killed in further, pointless, stupid wars.

We could see this again. It is possible that North Korea’s propagandized citizens would actually believe they were in existential danger and ‘defend’ their country by attacking, and force the world to deal with that attack. And laughable as their military is, it’s hard to, y’know, capture rather than kill on the battlefield if they don’t surrender.
