I sometimes wonder if President Obama puts too much faith in the good will of people. To him, it’s politics, or a game, and at some point there will be a consensus, but to them, it’s identity, and they think they have too much to lose.

I can believe this of Obama in 2009. Not of Obama in 2013. The man is not stupid.
