I can still remember how we cried when my brother got a high draft number. I was on campus at the U of IL then, and we had plenty of protests to go around.

I was spared that particular horror, first by a low number in the draft lottery and then by Nixon ending the draft entirely. My mom was ready to send me to Canada. Not sure what my dad would have said about that.
