Just looking at the Pence accident reports. Apparently the motorcycle escort accident happened on Rt 837 along the Monongahela (‘Mon’) River. Just south of Wilmerding (no kidding) and just east of Kennywood Park, which was open (Pittsburgh joke). The roads in that area used to be fairly crappy. I suspect that they have not improved in the decades since.

By the way, the Turtle Creek-Kennywood area is where Braddock’s Defeat (1755) occurred. Before the area was dredged for barge traffic there used to be a ford just east of Turtle Creek. It was just after crossing that ford and just before Turtle Creek, that the French and Native American forces attacked Braddock’s column. Supposedly there is a small monument that marks the spot.
