The ideology of Eugenics was an application of the evolutionary process. Understanding a principle does not mean that in using it you must leave the process unchanged.
Flight is an application of fluid dynamics; eugenics is an application of evolutionary biology. Doesn’t mean it was right to do, of course, but being unethical doesn’t make something unscientific. (That’s why science needs to be in its proper place.)
